  • Parking: Plenty.  Lots near the main entrance.  Large lot around back of rink with back entrance.

  • Locker Rooms: Decent size.  Clean, well kept.  Maintained regularly.  Coaches/Parent must turn in car keys to get locker room key.  Locker rooms are usually inspected before you can re-claim your car keys.  So have your players pick up their mess….
  • Rink Conditions:  Well run, modern.  Rinks 1 & 2 spectator temps are reasonable.  6 on a scale of 1 -10 (10 being the coldest).  Rink 3 is COLD!  We give it an 8.5!
  • Overall: Great venue, lots of parking, great staff, decent snack bar and pro shop.  Entertainment for the non-hockey members of your entourage.  Fairly easy to get to from I95 and Rt 140.  Rink is often host to tournaments in Spring and Fall.  Well run place.

  • Local attractions:  3/4 mile from Gillette (Patriots Place).  Lots of shops and restuaruants and bars.  Package store is about 1/2 mile away.  Dunkins nearby as well.  Ridgeway Casio nearby.  Wrentham Outlets as well (both within 10 min drive).  Buffalo Wild Wings nearby.  Lots of hotels (name brand and local).

  • Notes on Getting there:  Pretty easy.  Near Logan.  Behind a residential neighborhood.
  • Parking:  Medium size.  linear parking lots near rink.  if parking full, drop kid & equipment off and drive over to parking.
  • Sheets:  1 sheet of ice
  • Locker Rooms:  Medium size.  No frills but clean & maintained.
  • Rink Conditions:  Cold.  Plenty of bleacher seats. Cold Scale is a 9 (on a scale of 1-10…10 being the coldest).
  • Overall:  Porazzo is a DCR run rink.  Older but clean rink.  Well cared for.  The rink itself is brutally cold.  Be prepared for it!  The ice is excellent in the winter, but in the fall can be a little soft.  The Rink is located right on a State Beach so you have a chance to get out and stretch your legs.  Dogs at the beach are welcome.  Leash during the in-season off leash thru the winter.

  • Photography at rink:  Glass limits pictues.  Lighting okay for photography.
  • Other stuff for kids:  Beach, open areas to run/stretch.  Basketball & tennis courts on property to burn off energy.

 

Bajko Rink – Hyde Park, MA

  • Overall: Not our favorite rink.  Good for Middle School practices.  A bit run down and dingy.  But i suspect that’s a budgeting issue with the state.

  • Snack Bar: Small one.  Reasonable prices.  Haven’t seen it open mid-week yet.  Hotdogs, pizza, chicken nuggets and drinks

Canton Sports Center – Canton MA

  • Parking: Plenty of Parking.  At rink, behind rink and in nearby industrial area on weekends (doesn’t seem like there is an issue on weekends)
  • Sheets:  2 Sheets (“Dog Pound” and “Boneyard”
  • Locker Rooms:  Small to Medium.  Same Level for Dog Pound.  Boneyard rinks are mostly upstairs.
  • Rink Conditions:  Good ice, well maintained.
  • Overall:  Decent Rink with 2 sheets of ice.  Fairly easy to get to.  Well run.  Snack bar with fantastic pizza.  On a cold scale (10 being the coldest) this rink is a solid 8.  Viewing area for the “Dog Pound” is upstairs and gets crowded.  Viewing area for the “Boneyard” is more crowded-you can go upstairs or stay down in the heated area. Updated.  There is a small elevator near the snack bar for access to upper viewing areas.

  • Snack Bar: Yes.  Arguably one of the best pizzas around (no joke!).  There is a pizza oven and the Pizza Chef makes a great pie.  Slices are availalbe, but you can order a whole pie, just give yourself 30-40 minutes.  Other snack options, drinks, coffee etc.  Cash only (ATM on property).

  • Vending Machine(s): Yes (on the Dog Pound side)

  • Photography at rink: On the Dog Pound side you can get good shots from above.  Net does not extend all the way.  Lighting can be dim, but usually okay.

  • Rink Conditions:  Cold.  Scale of 1-10 (10 being coldest) this is a solid 8.
  • Overall:  Nice place.  Easy to get to, few minutes off major highways.  Well cared for.  Locker rooms are slightly small.  Coach/Parent must turn in car keys to get locker room keys.  2 sheets of ice.  Right hand ice has pay as you go heaters (bring quarters!).  Nice quality snack bar.  Plenty of parking, small field next to lot for teams to stretch out and limber up.  Bring a football or wiffle ball & bat for pre-game warm ups.

  • Pro Shop:  Yes.  Rear of building.  Well stocked.  Friendly bulldog runs the place!
